Fading

The Spring semester starts up tomorrow and I'm ready. I'm ready to tackle my classes, excel, and finish on a good note. I'm determined to make this a good one and nothing will stop me.

But I hate change (there it is again-rearing its ugly head). This semester is gonna be so different, for various reasons-most of which I'm still trying to find the positive in. I'm such a creature of habit that it's almost unhealthy. In the past couple of days I've been wondering how I'll go about this next semester in light of recent events. All I know for sure is that change is, without a doubt, about to present itself. That's the fun part.

Writing You A Symphony of Sound

I think it's safe to say that my past few blog posts have had the common theme of change. Change for this semester, personal change, and I guess just change overall. But I've never really thought out how I'll come to terms with the change that's bound to happen, be it positive or negative. I think I've dealt with change pretty well thus far, but life is pretty good at throwing curveballs.

Even in the past few days, the change of moving back into my dorm room after being in the comfort of my own home for almost a month has been surprisingly weird. I figured it wouldn't really have that big of an effect on me, but I kind of miss home already (that's the homebody in me talking). It's been great seeing all of my friends and not even all of them have returned to campus yet.

It's almost as if returning to campus has put me in some kind of funk. I'm sure it'll go away soon, but I hate being in funks. Is that the right word, funk? We'll go with it for now. There are bigger problems to complain about, I know, but for now I'll be in my funk until the happy-go-lucky me returns.

Ours.

She likes Duke basketball. She listens to alternative rock. She loves The Fray. She doesn't mind sitting at Starbucks like wannabe hipsters and just talking. She's close to the Lord. She's close to her parents. She'll sit and watch ESPN and know what's going on. She has a killer sense of humor-not afraid to be a little crude at times, but in small amounts. She's got a smile that lights up a room. She walks in and your heart skips a beat or two.

She's athletic. She'll predict a better bracket than you in March Madness. She says random things at random times. She has a taste for European-made vehicles. She'll keep you grounded. She's always up for dressing classy, but chilling in sweats is just as fine. She'll go to the golf course with you- even if it's just to drive the cart. She'll introduce you to new music. She makes you look at life with a different perspective. She prefers college athletics over professional. She's spontaneous.

And most importantly---she'll be mine. (In like a mutual, loving relationship kind of way. Not a creepy "You're mine, woman!" kind of way. To clarify)

Ready, Set,...

I move back into my dorm tomorrow-well, I guess today since it's 2:03 in the morning. This semester is going to be better than the last, mark my words. My dad, the philosopher that he is, always says "A hungry dog hunts harder" (he used to be a coach so he has all these sayings...meh). Regardless, I'm gonna concentrate on that quote this semester. I'm hungry. And you can bet that I'm on the hunt. Academically and personally.

There's a fire burning inside me to kick my classes' behinds this semester. So I suppose that's the academic aspect of it. However, there's always room for personal growth and improvement, in my opinion. I'm gonna try and be more empathetic. More devoted. Most importantly, I'm trying to find that balance between not being OCD about everything and trying to be mellow and collected all the time. Jury's still out on that one. All of this is easier said than done, so it's all a challenge in itself, I guess. But I think I'm up for it.

I Wish I Could Sing

Y'all don't understand the urge I have to just belt out songs at random moments. Okay, I bet you do, but still. I wish I could sing. If I could sing, I would cover probably every song ever sung by Tenth Avenue North. They just know their stuff. I feel like I'd be a pretty good singer, too. You see, if I could sing then I would also learn to play the guitar. BOOM. Hello ladies, flock to me. Just kidding. But seriously,  I would sing and play for people all the time. I'd be the guy at the talent show that delivers an amazing cover of The Fray that everyone is in pure awe. You can say I've imagined it before.

Unfortunately, when I open my mouth to sing it's not exactly soothing to the ears. So for the time being I suppose I'll just keep it in the car by myself and let the occasional fellow driver catch a glimpse of me jamming out. You wanna be that driver, I know.

I'm Never Going Down, I'm Never Giving Up

I'm in a funk. The cause of this funk, I believe, is my lack of working out here lately. I haven't even ran at all this break WHAT IS GOING ON. It's nice to be lazy and have no repercussions, but I'm about to put a stop to that. Mark my words, readers- I will get my summer bod back. I'm also going to have to avoid all the crap on campus. Oh man, the crap on campus. Cane's, the caf, it's never ending. Whatever, I'm getting cheese fries.

Let's Waste Time Chasing Cars Around Our Heads

Do you ever tend to look back on things? I'm sure a lot of people do. I keep going back to high school mentally. I was good at high school. I had great friends (not that I don't currently), people knew who I was (call me cocky), and I felt absolutely content with life. It was safe & secure. College is so different. I've only kept in touch with a handful of my friends from high school, but I guess that's to be expected. I miss the way things used to be; the mindless routine of things. Call me a has-been, but I just miss it all.

I love my college life, but it's so different. Some days I'm surprised I got through the day without babbling like a fool from losing my mind. I'm gonna tell myself that's just a normal thing for a first year college student to experience. Yeah, we'll go with that. I guess I just miss the familiarity of it all. I used to say "I can't wait to get out of this town", but to be honest, this town is home. This town is security. Sometimes I worry about the future. Will I get the house on the golf course like I always wanted? Will I get my dream job? I was somebody in high school and I'm trying to stay on the path to being someone in college, but it's harder than you think, friends. I often wonder what it'll be like to fast forward to my adult self and have that (hopeful) sense of security and consistency that I once had. But I guess to get to that point of consistency you have to enjoy the ride there. So that's what I'm focusing on now- enjoying the ride.
